City of Hope
Blanca is a clinical social worker at City of Hope specialized in the care of breast cancer patients. In her role as a bilingual social worker, she experiences first-hand the unique needs of the monolingual Spanish-speaking patients. Numerous encounters of barriers to care for her patients led her to affirm a commitment to enhancing patient and family-centered care that motivated her to create a team to establish El Concilio. In addition, Blanca has created educational workshops to improve communication and coping for patients and their families at City of Hope. She also collaborates with the developers of Support Screen to guide them on pertinent clinical care as they continue to expand the use of this tool throughout the institution. Blanca obtained her MSW from Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana. Her background includes working with diverse population such as HIV, mental health and adolescents in the juvenile court system.
