Dr. Kimberly C. Horton is a Registered Nurse with over 30 years of experience in health care from the bedside to the boardroom. She currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer for Vibra Hospital of Sacramento. Prior to this, she served as Chief Operating Officer for Kaiser Vallejo Medical Center. During her career as an Administrator, she has held positions of Senior Vice President and System Chief Nursing Officer, Vice President for Clinical Services, Chief Nursing Officer and Director of Cardiovascular Operations. She has also served as a Cardiac Surgery Recovery Nurse and a Nurse Practitioner specializing in Genetic Disorders of the Blood and Chronic Disease Management. Her programs have received recognitions such as top 100 awards for CABG and MI care, Joint Commission Quality Award, Excellence in Sepsis Care and Beta Health Care Maternal Child Health Quality. Under Dr. Horton’s leadership Vibra Hospital of Sacramento received the Most Improved Hospital for 2015 and the Vibra Healthcare Hospital of the Year Award in 2016.
Dr. Horton has been recognized with numerous personal awards including Service Award, Lifetime Achievement Award, Woman of the Year, Excellence in Nursing Leadership, Excellence in Clinical Care Quality and Alumni Icon for School of Advanced Studies (University of Phoenix). She is a member the Association of California Nurse Leaders (currently President elect), Sigma Theta Tau Nursing Honor Society and the American Organization of Nurse Executives. She is also a Fellow of the American College of Health Care Executives.
Dr. Horton has served on numerous Community Boards including Nursing Advisory Boards for Holy Names University, University of San Francisco, and University of Phoenix. She served on the American Nurse Association committee for revision of the Code of Ethics for Nurses and the Board of Directors for the Association of California Nurse Leaders representing the Central and Northern California Regions. She also serves on the CEO committee for the Hospital Council for Northern and Central California. Dr. Horton is also an Advisor to Assemblyman Kevin Kiley, (R), (California District 6) and served as a Public Health Commissioner for Alameda County from 2016-2017.
Dr. Horton holds Bachelor and Master of Science in Nursing degrees and Doctor of Health Administration. In addition to the publication of her doctoral dissertation, Dr. Horton has contributed a chapter entitled “Nurse Participation in Healthcare Delivery, Policy Development and Implementation over time” for a book (pending publication) entitled “Nurse Activist and Change: Then and Now”.
