Don't Judge a Book by its Cover: Recognizing and Managing Our Biases

000 days 00 hours 00 minutes 00 seconds

We all have biases. Oftentimes, bias is the brain’s tendency to seek information that supports what we already believe and dismiss information that is contrary to our belief system. Unconscious bias describes the automatic association people make between groups of people and stereotypes about those groups. Under certain conditions, those automatic associations can influence behavior—making people respond in biased ways even when they are not explicitly prejudiced. When left unchecked, unconscious or implicit bias can impact an organization’s effectiveness. During this engaging and interactive session, you will walk away to...

  • Understand what unconscious bias means and how it may influence our decisions.
  • Understand how unconscious bias can impact employee performance and talent acquisition decisions.
  • Learn practical ways to achieve objective recruitment efforts and performance management practices.
  • Review actionable strategies to manage biases in the workplace, including educational resources.
  • Videos, polling, and group exercises will be incorporated into this session.
